It's pretty startling that this company thought that they could keep this worker quiet when he realized that they had been paying people below minimum wage. As if just paying him the money they had stolen from him was ever going to be enough to "buy him".
Props to this worker, u/heytheremonkeyboy, for doing the right thing and reporting them to an oversight organization that would independently review their payments.
The final nail in the coffin here is that they went through the trouble to make their entire maintenance team redundant just to get rid of this one worker who didn't turn the other cheek and called them out on their horrible and illegal behavior.
This is the kind of revenge that we like to see. For example, check out this guy who went nuclear and posted his employer's details online after they fired him just for being injured.
